Texas Education Agency (TEA) assigns accountability ratings to Texas schools.
Accountability Rating: This refers to the district and campus ratings assigned by the 2009 state accountability system.
Districts and campuses are evaluated on performance on the TAKS, completion rate and annual dropout rate.
Possible ratings are:
While the accountability ratings system looks at the district's performance as a whole in the areas of reading, math, writing, science and social studies, it also looks at the performance of grade levels at each campus by five state-determined student groups.
Exemplary-rated campuses must have are least 90 percent of all students pass the standards for each subject and a dropout rate of two percent or less for middle schools or a completion rate of 95 percent or better for high schools.
Recognized-rated campuses must have 75 percent of all students pass the standards for each subject and a dropout rate of two percent or less for middle schools or a completion rate of 85 percent or better for high schools.
Academically Acceptable, a school must have at least 70 percent of all students and subgroups passing the reading standards, at least 65 percent passing writing and social studies, at least 50 percent passing math, at last 45 percent passing science, along with a dropout rate of two percent or less for middle schools and a completion rate of 75 percent or better for high schools.
Progressive High School, the Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program at Alternative School and the Technical Education Center are classified as programs and, therefore, do not receive a state accountability rating.
